Culture is an inseparable part of Armenian history. Over thousand years, starting from epoch of Urartu, which was challenging the world superiority of Assyria, to the new period of a history - Armenian culture developed in very interesting and complicated way. Armenia’s culture is unique by its more than 2000 year-old history. Throughout its history, Armenia resisted invasion and absorption, relaying through its culture one of the most beautiful manifestations of its identity. Many wars and other disasters in ancient and recent time left a deep imprint in its culture, throughout its history Armenian culture was also greatly influenced by many other cultures, but yet it managed to preserve its originality and heritage. Numerous monuments and masterpieces of the Ancient era and Middle Ages can be found throughout the country.

Armenian culture is very diversified and that is also a historical influence – as a consequence of historical tragic division, post-mediaeval Armenian culture has two traditions – Western and Eastern Armenian.
