   In 1991 Armenia gained independence and became a sovereign member of the world community. The country inherited a distorted, inefficient, and obsolete national economy strongly affected by the collapse of the central planning system. The living standards of the population declined catastrophically. The constantly and rapidly changing world required constructive and democratic reformation of the political and economic system of the country. Armenia embarked on a transformation period.

   But yet, being in rather unfavorable initial conditions, Armenia still develops and participates in the world’s economical, political, social and cultural life. Our country has been able to carry out wide-ranging economic reforms that have resulted in steady growth since 1995. New sectors, such as precious stone processing and jewelry making, information and communication technology, and tourism have begun to supplement more traditional sectors in the economy.

   We form our culture, shape our history, we stand for our prosperity and realizing the potential of our country.
